About You / What We Are Looking For
We are
seeking an experienced Communications Specialist to join our Civilian Police
Services Communications team on a temporary, part‑time basis. This role will
work along side the Operational Communications Centre (OCC) to support the
launch of Next Generation 911 (NG911), a major advancement in emergency
communications that will provide Canadians and first responders with faster,
more accessible emergency response tools and enhance public safety.
The
Communications Specialist will play a key role in educating audiences and
building momentum for the transition to NG911, both internally and externally.
You will collaborate with the team to develop a clear, accurate, and engaging
communications plan using a range of tools including print, digital, video, and
website. This position is also responsible for creating, managing, and
evaluating internal communications related to the NG911 launch, ensuring
employees stay informed through regular updates, intranet content, and internal
digital tools.
Reporting to
the OCC manager, you will work alongside police officers and civilian staff to
create an integrated communications approach that educates, informs, and
engages our community.
Key
responsibilities include:

Lead
the NG911 Communications strategy development and implementation
·
Create
print, digital, video, social media, and website content to promote NG911
·
Contribute
to developing the annual communications strategy
·
Develop
and maintain the internal website and communications tools related to NG911
·
Collaborate
and develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders to gather and
disseminate pertinent information
·
Attend
community engagement events to support education and awareness around NG911 and
911
The ideal candidate is
a strong communicator with excellent verbal and written skills, supported by
solid graphic design and video production abilities. They are a motivated
self‑starter who works well both independently and in a team, bringing
exceptional attention to detail and a genuine passion for communications and
social media management. This candidate demonstrates strategic thinking,
understands policing principles and public‑sector communication protocols, and
maintain a strong work ethic. Above all, they bring accuracy, consistency, and
enthusiasm to every aspect of their work.
Minimum
Qualifications
Degree, diploma, or certificate in
Communications, Marketing, Public Relations or a related discipline, plus
related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Due to the short duration of this auxiliary
opportunity, candidates must hold an
existing RCMP Enhanced Reliability Security Clearance as the clearance process
can take up to 8 months to complete.
Preferred Qualifications
Bilingual (English and French) is considered
an asset
What We Offer:
This CUPE
position has an hourly rate range of $42.16 – $49.76 plus 12 % in lieu of
benefits. The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors including
qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills. This position will scheduled
20 hours per week, Monday-Friday daytime hours, for a period for up to one
year, ending no later than July 2027.
