About You / What We Are Looking For

 

Are you a compassionate and results-oriented leader ready to coordinate municipal response to complex community safety issues like homelessness? Join our team as the Community Safety Advisor. This pivotal role will lead the City’s initiatives in response to homelessness and the management of encampments through a compassionate yet firm approach. You’ll liaise with the Tri-Cities Homelessness and Housing Task Group, community based non-profit organizations, and government agencies to implement strategies that address complex societal challenges that impact people, and the livability of the community.

 

Reporting to the Senior Manager Bylaw Services, this key position in our Community Safety Department will work closely with a variety of internal and external partners to assist in mitigating issues and coordinate possible solutions to various cross-departmental projects involving the safety of our community. The Community Safety Advisor will advise staff and external stakeholders on appropriate measures to deliver effective projects, programs and services to our community related to homelessness and other important community safety related projects.  This role will develop and execute short-term strategies that facilitate voluntary compliance with City Bylaws in order to address immediate community challenges related to homelessness, including encampments.  This position will facilitate more effective delivery of City services related to complex social challenges, in collaboration with other divisions including Fire, Police, and Social Planning, as well as Non-profit, Provincial and Federal agencies.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline, preferably Social Work, Community Planning, Public Administration, or a related field, along with specialized training in homelessness, mental health or substance use. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Exceptional interpersonal, communication (written and verbal), conflict resolution, and mediation skills. At least three years of related experience in homelessness services, community safety, or a similar role preferably within a government setting.

 

Experience in coordinating services and working with diverse populations, including those with mental health and substance use challenges.

 

What We Offer:

 

This excluded position has an annual salary range of $101,594 - $109,884.  The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors including qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills.

This position is based in Coquitlam with some flexible, albeit limited based on the nature of work, hybrid work options available.
