About You / What We Are Looking For
This role supports the planning, coordination, delivery, and ongoing maintenance of the City’s Emergency Support Services (ESS) Program. The position plays a key role in emergency preparedness by coordinating training and exercises, maintaining procedures and instructional materials, supporting recruitment and oversight, managing supplier relationships and inventories, and providing program and administrative support. The role also supports ESS and Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) activations, including on-site response, documentation, coordination with internal and external partners, and post incident follow up.
The ideal candidate is a proactive, organized and service oriented professional who exercises sound judgement and remains calm and effective in both routine and high pressure situations. You are comfortable working independently with minimal supervision, while also collaborating closely with staff, volunteers, and partner agencies. You communicate clearly and professionally, have strong organizational and problem solving skills, and are motivated by supporting the community and helping people during emergencies.
Minimum Qualifications
- Completed of Grade 12 supplemented by post-secondary coursework or training in emergency management, or a related field.
- Related experience supporting emergency support services, emergency management, public safety, or a similar operational environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills together with the ability to exercise sound judgement and work effectively under pressure.
- A valid Class 5 Driver’s License (BC) and ability to complete a Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post secondary education or certificate in emergency management or a related field.
- Experience working in a municipal or public sector environment.
- Experience supporting ESS or EOC activations.
- Experience coordinating training, exercises, workshops and recruitment.
- Ability to work non-standard hours during emergency events, or to support meetings and training as required
What We Offer:
This CUPE position has an hourly rate range of $37.32 - $43.93. The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors including qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills.
