About You / What We Are Looking For

 

This challenging and rewarding role involves technical, administrative, and field work relative to reviewing, planning and managing municipal storm systems, watersheds, sanitary sewer systems, water systems, and engineering construction projects.

 

Your role will include:

  • An understanding of the City’s water, sanitary, drainage systems and watersheds.
  • Support the City’s Inflow and Infiltration (I&I) Reduction Program.
  • Review of proposed developments in the context of neighbourhood plans and system capacity.
  • Implementation of the City’s leak detection program.
  • Coordinating watershed health monitoring and management projects.
  • Assisting with scope development and supporting the implementation of capital projects.
  • Capital project planning and cost estimating.
  • Resolving residents issues with City utilities.
  • Liaising with Metro Vancouver for new or extended water and sanitary service connections.
  • Reviewing and managing waste discharge permits.
  • Working collaboratively in a team dedicated to serving our community.

Your success in this role is dependent on your knowledge of municipal storm water, sanitary sewer, and water systems and their management and performance. You are also knowledgeable in design and engineering standards relative to all aspects of municipal infrastructure servicing and of the methods, practices, materials and equipment used in the construction and installation of municipal utilities.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

The ideal candidate has completed a diploma in an appropriate discipline (such as Civil/Environmental Engineering Technology) from an institute of technology, plus sound related municipal engineering experience. Certification or eligibility for certification as an Applied Science Technologist within the Province of BC is a requirement. A valid BC Driver’s License is also required.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with municipal utility systems, including water, sanitary, and stormwater infrastructure. 
  • Demonstrated experience engaging with the public and communicating technical concepts in a clear, concise, and easily understandable manner.
  • Experience with hydraulic modelling software such as PCSWMM and WaterGEMS/SewerGEMS.

What We Offer:

 

This CUPE position has an hourly rate range of $35.84 - $42.16. The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors including qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills.
