About You / What We Are Looking For

 

The City is currently recruiting 3 Regular Full Time Forest Management Technicians to join our Parks team! As part of a dynamic team in the Parks Urban Forestry section of the Parks, Recreation, Culture and Facilities Department, the Forest Management Technician plays a key role in managing our Urban Forest.

Reporting to the Urban Forestry leadership team, the successful candidates will be responsible for technical field work, staff and volunteer supervision, wildlife management plan implementation and other urban forest and tree management plans implementation. This work is a combination of work in the field in all types of weather supporting operational teams and community members as well as technical administrative work supporting the City’s Tree Management Bylaw processes and a comprehensive tree planting and pruning program, along with a targeted habitat restoration program.

 

You will also utilize your excellent communication skills to inform the public about urban forestry issues, concerns, practices and procedures. If you would like to use your strong relationship building skills with internal and external contacts, and would like to apply your knowledge of forest management practices, we look forward to your application!

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Eligible for registration with the Association of BC Forest Professionals as a Registered Professional Forester, Registered Forest Technologist, Forester in Training or Trainee Forest Technologist. 
  • Certification as an Arborist with the International Society of Arboriculture as well as their International Society of Arboriculture Tree Risk Assessor Qualification. 
  • Bachelor’s degree or a post-secondary diploma in forestry or natural resource management is required, along with at least 3 years of related experience. An equivalent combination of training and experience may also be considered.
  • Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia (with a satisfactory driving report) is required.

This CUPE position has an hourly rate range of $42.16 - $49.76. The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors including qualifiations, knowledge, experience and skills.
