About You / What We Are Looking For

The City of Coquitlam is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and collaborative professional to join our team as a Health and Safety Administrator.

In this key support role, you will work closely with the Occupational Health & Safety team to help administer and coordinate health and safety programs, initiatives, and reporting processes that contribute to a safe and healthy workplace. You bring a strong administrative foundation, experience  in occupational health and safety, and the professionalism required to manage sensitive and confidential information with care and discretion.

You thrive in a fast-paced, unionized municipal environment where accuracy, organization, and teamwork are essential. You enjoy working with data, systems, and documentation, and you take pride in supporting programs that make a meaningful difference to employee well-being. With strong communication skills and a proactive approach, you are comfortable liaising with internal stakeholders, external agencies, and training providers to help ensure health and safety practices are effectively coordinated and maintained.

What You Will Do

  • Provide proactive administrative and operational support to the Occupational Health & Safety team.
  • Coordinate and maintain health and safety data, including inspection logs, incident reports, and injury records.
  • Prepare quarterly and annual health and safety statistics and reports.
  • Maintain and update the City’s Safety Management System.
  • Prepare and distribute Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee (JOHSC) agendas and minutes.
  • Assist with WorkSafeBC reporting, inquiries, and related documentation.
  • Coordinate health and safety training initiatives, including researching vendors and scheduling sessions.
  • Assist with the planning, coordination, and implementation of health and safety programs and initiatives.
  • Prepare sensitive and confidential correspondence, documents, and reports.
  • Manage confidential health and safety information in accordance with privacy requirements.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of a Diploma or Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. (Note: Degrees/certificates in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related fields require demonstrated Occupational Health and Safety program support experience.)
  • One to three years of related administrative experience supporting health and safety programs.
  • Experience working in a unionized and/or public sector environment is preferred.
  • A current BC Driver’s License and full-time access to a vehicle is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional designation such as Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST).
  • Experience supporting occupational health and safety programs within a municipal organization.

Other Requirements Include

  • Strong administrative and organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel (pivot tables, formulas), Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
  • Experience working with PeopleSoft or similar human resources information systems.
  • Ability to analyze data and prepare clear, accurate reports and statistics.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • High degree of professionalism and discretion when handling confidential information.

What We Offer:

 

This excluded position has an annual salary range of $82,453 - $89,181 (2025 rates).  The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors including qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills.
