About You / What We Are Looking For

 

We are seeking an HVAC Mechanic to join our team of professionals in our Parks, Recreation, Culture and Facilities Department. Delivering professional and customer-focused services, our ideal candidate will provide their knowledge and skillset in support of our strategic and business plan priorities. As the City has numerous HVAC systems across its inventory of facilities including several leading edge heat recovery and DDC systems, a fast paced, challenging and positive environment will meet the successful incumbent.

 

This is skilled work at the journeyman level involving the inspection, maintenance and repair of heating, ventilating, air conditioning and related systems in various municipal buildings.  An incumbent carries out a variety of maintenance tasks, identifies malfunctions and repair requirements, troubleshoots equipment, performs repair work, and identifies the need for more extensive repairs.  An incumbent also coordinates and monitors repairs performed by contractors and develops and coordinates preventive maintenance programs.  Work is performed under general supervision.  Major repairs and system changes are discussed with a superior who reviews work performance for quality and conformance with established standards.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

The successful candidate will have their completion of Grade 12 and technical courses related to the work, and completion of a recognized apprenticeship as a refrigeration mechanic, plus considerable related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.  Additionally, they will have their BC Certificate of Qualification (Refrigeration Mechanic) and BC Gas Fitter Certification.   A Driver's License for the Province of British Columbia (with satisfactory driving record) is required.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Red Seal certification as a Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic will be considered an asset.

This CUPE position has an hourly rate of $46.86. The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors including qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills.
