About You / What We Are Looking For

 

Are you a self-motivated, responsible team player with a flexible schedule? Do you love working outdoors and getting your hands dirty? If so, we want you to join our Parks division for seasonal assignments! We're hiring for both temporary full-time positions (up to 8 months) and auxiliary positions. These roles require physical stamina and include daytime, evening, and weekend shifts.

As a 2025 Labourer 2, you'll enjoy working in the great outdoors, engaging in regular physical activity, and embracing all types of weather. You'll need the strength, stamina, and coordination to tackle heavy, labor-intensive tasks. If you're excited about a variety of construction and maintenance tasks and love using power and hand tools, we can't wait to see your application.

What You'll Do

 

You'll work in various Parks Operations sections, including Sport Services, Urban Forestry, Infrastructure, and Landscape teams. Your duties will include:

  • Horticulture/Turf Care Labourer: Plant and maintain beautiful perennials and annuals, and help keep our parks and road boulevards looking their best.
  • Sport Services/Turf Care Labourer: Keep our lawns and grounds in top shape, care for sport fields, and assist with event supplies and litter clean-up in parks and trails.
  • Urban Forestry: Remove invasive plants, plant and maintain habitat restoration sites, educate the public, and care for newly planted forested areas and street trees.
  • Infrastructure: Keep our parks clean, pressure wash surfaces, and assist with the construction, maintenance, and replacement of playgrounds, fencing, benches, irrigation systems, and trails

 

What We're Looking For

 

  • Some high school education.
  • Experience in general construction and maintenance work, preferably in a role similar to Labourer 2.
  • Relevant experience in landscaping, urban forestry, sports field maintenance, or infrastructure maintenance/construction is a plus.
  • Education and/or training in Horticulture, Resource Management, Turf Grass Management, and/or Landscape Construction is a bonus.
  • Experience driving a 3-ton truck and operating rotary mowers, line trimmers, chainsaws, and other equipment is a plus.
  • A valid BC Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.

What We Offer:

 

This CUPE position has an hourly rate of $34.41 (2025 rates).

 

You will have the chance to join a rapidly growing and diverse team dedicated to supporting the local community, and be able to engage in variety of learning and development opportunities. Temporary full time opportunities provide an additional 6% in lieu of benefits as well as some health and wellness benefits.  Auxiliary assignments will receive 12% in lieu of benefits.
