About You / What We Are Looking For

 

We are currently recruiting for self-motivated and responsible team players to work in this very rewarding summer assignment. This entry-level position is well suited for students who have an interest in learning more about municipal public works. This is a CUPE Local 386 temporary position.

 

Under limited supervision, you will assist with the maintenance and repair of City Public Works including Roads, Water, Sewer and Drainage infrastructure. Some duties may include but are not limited to:  litter collection; weed removals; vegetation control; traffic markings; assisting in utility service repairs; assisting in ditch cleaning; assisting in fire hydrant painting; and assisting in pump station landscaping.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

You must enjoy working outdoors performing regular physical activity that is often repetitive in nature and in all types of weather.  Preferred candidates will have relevant work experience involving general labour or other related work. You will possess the following: excellent interpersonal and communication skills; work well independently as well as in a team setting; valid B.C. driver’s license (Class 5 preferred); and knowledge of applicable safe work procedures. Additional assets would include the ability to operate small equipment and some knowledge of municipal infrastructure.

 

These positions are anticipated to start early May and end late August. 

 

What We Offer:

 

This CUPE position has an hourly rate of $34.41 (2025 rates). The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors including qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills.

Temporary full time opportunities provide an additional 6% in lieu of benefits as well as some health and wellness benefits.
