About You / What We Are Looking For

 

Join our team as a Lead Building Service professional! We are actively searching for a qualified and experienced individual to take on the role of Lead Building Service. This position involves engaging in manual work with limited supervisory responsibilities, collaborating with a superior to plan and assign janitorial, custodial, and security tasks for a small team.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in planning and assigning janitorial, custodial, and security tasks for a small team.
  • Actively participate in the execution of tasks, demonstrating hands-on leadership.
  • Exercise independence of judgment in recommending schedules and making non-routine work assignments.
  • Address problems using established standards and procedures; escalate to a Superior when necessary.

Requirements:

  • Sound knowledge of standard methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in janitorial and routine building maintenance.
  • Familiarity with occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work.
  • Some knowledge of routine building maintenance and minor repair tasks.
  • Ability to plan, assign, and coordinate the work of subordinates, develop work plans, and provide instruction on job tasks to new staff members.
  • Capability to maintain simple records related to the work.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to deal courteously and effectively with the public.
  • Ability to work with limited direct supervision.
  • Skill in the use of cleaning and maintenance supplies and equipment.
  • Availability to work afternoon, evenings and/or weekend shifts.
  • Driver's License for the Province of British Columbia.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 8, preferably with completion of janitorial courses and some related experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in supervising staff is required.
  • Possession of a Building Service Worker certificate is an asset.

This CUPE position has an hourly rate range of $29.36 - $34.39 (2025 rates). The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors including qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills.
