About You / What We Are Looking For
The Legislative Services Division is seeking an experienced and skilled Legislative Services Advisor to become an integral part of their dynamic and talented team.
The Legislative Services Advisor is a new position that will play a key role in overseeing administrative staff and operations within the Legislative Services Division and will hold a Deputy Corporate Officer position. This position will focus on enhancing organizational efficiency and effectiveness by leading efforts to standardize service delivery and managing special projects aimed at modernizing legislative services’ systems, practices, and processes. Additionally, the Legislative Services Advisor will take the lead in establishing a cohesive, organization-wide approach to Council and Committee meeting governance, as well as the development of reports to Council, bylaws, and policies. Lastly, the Legislative Services Advisor will support Council’s Finance and Strategic Priorities Standing Committee meetings.
The ideal candidate possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to build strong relationships across the organization. They will possess problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills and demonstrate a strong understanding of legislative, governance, and policy frameworks. With proven leadership and the ability to foster learning, the Advisor will liaise with various internal and external partners, and champion change initiatives. A solid knowledge of relevant acts, regulations, and statutes is essential, as is proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Reporting to the Director Legislative Services, the Advisor will be an integral part of the team and work closely with the Manager of Legislative Services and Manager Information, Privacy and Records Management in delivering effective and efficient Council and Council Committee agendas, meetings and minutes. They may also act as an election officer for local general and by-elections, as delegated by the Corporate Officer.
Minimum Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in public or local government administration, political science, business, law or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Minimum of 3 years experience working in a legislative services environment, preferably at the local government level.
Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate brings expertise in statutory decision-making frameworks, business process management initiatives, and the interpretation of legislation, policies, and bylaws. They are skilled in drafting reports, policies, bylaws, and various other documents, as well as in the administration of elections.
What We Offer:
This excluded position has an annual salary range of $113,373 - 127,529. The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors including qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills.
