About You / What We Are Looking For

The City of Coquitlam is seeking a strategic and forward-thinking professional to join our Fire/Rescue Services Division as Manager, Business Services. This is an exciting opportunity for a collaborative leader with a strong foundation in finance, analytics and team development, to make a meaningful impact in a dynamic and essential public safety environment.

As a key member of the Fire/Rescue Services leadership team, you will play a central role in developing divisional strategies, managing departmental budgets, and implementing policy and operational improvements. You will apply strategic and analytical problem-solving to identify business solutions, prioritize initiatives, and drive continuous improvement across the division. Your ability to manage competing deadlines, foster effective management practices, lead and support a team of clerical staff, and build strong working relationships across the division will be essential to your success in this role.

You will also serve as a connector between Fire/Rescue and other City departments such as Finance, Planning and Development, and ICT—ensuring alignment on financial planning, operational priorities, and cross-departmental collaboration. You will champion data-driven decision-making, identify opportunities for innovation and efficiency, and foster a culture of continuous improvement. Your leadership will help shape internal operations, build trust across departments, and support the development of a high-performing administrative team. You will provide day-to-day leadership to a team of clerical professionals, ensuring clear direction, professional development, and a supportive work environment.

Reporting to the Fire Chief, you will bring strong communication skills, analytical acumen, and a collaborative mindset to advance divisional goals and city-wide priorities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • University degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in a strategic management role, with demonstrated responsibility for financial oversight, direct staff supervision, team leadership, and operational planning.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and foster cross-functional collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA designation or Master’s degree in Business Administration or Public Administration would be considered an asset.
  • Experience in a municipal or regional government setting.
  • Prior experience in a public safety or community services environment is desirable.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, manage budgets, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Experience managing clerical or administrative teams in a unionized environment is an asset.
