Professional
Summary / Key Qualifications
- Highly self‑motivated
professional with the ability to work effectively both independently and
in collaborative team environments.
- Skilled in preparing,
updating, and producing maps for diverse projects using ArcGIS Pro.
- Experienced in migrating
legacy ArcMap documents to ArcGIS Pro and supporting the modernization and
streamlining of GIS workflows.
- Proficient in researching, compiling,
entering, and editing spatial data and related non‑spatial attributes derived
from legal plans, survey drawings, orthoimagery, and other technical
documentation.
- Strong working knowledge of the Esri
ArcGIS suite—particularly ArcGIS Pro—with the ability to navigate and
troubleshoot the software with minimal guidance.
- Adept at following established
procedures with precision while also contributing thoughtful
recommendations for process improvements.
- Effective communicator with the ability
to build and maintain positive working relationships across
multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent problem‑solving abilities,
meticulous attention to detail, and a genuine enthusiasm for tackling
challenges and developing robust solutions.
We are looking for a temporary full-time Mapping
Technician 1 to join our Planning & Development team! Reporting to the
Manager, Business & Innovation, you’ll support the development,
maintenance, and day-to-day use of the department’s GIS resources and services.
In this hands-on role, you’ll contribute to the
creation and upkeep of City base maps, informative/interactive map tools, and the
creation of legal land use records using modern, computer-assisted tools.
You’ll research and integrate data from a variety of sources, update and refine
maps and drawings for a variety of planning projects, and manage important
non-graphic data with accuracy and care.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys
combining technical precision with problem-solving. You’ll work closely with
internal teams and external partners, building strong relationships while
delivering reliable mapping support. You’ll have the independence to
confidently manage routine assignments, with guidance available for more
complex or specialized challenges. Your work will play an important role in
ensuring high-quality mapping services that support informed decision-making
across the organization.
Minimum Qualifications
- Desired education will include an Advanced Diploma in
GIS from an accredited institute
- Sound knowledge of the departmental policies,
procedures, practices, rules and regulations related to the work performed.
- Sound knowledge of computer assisted mapping and
drafting techniques, procedures and materials and mapping principles.
- Working knowledge of data architecture and planning
processes as related to the work performed.
- Ability to research, compile, enter, analyze and
assemble geographic and associated geographic‑based data using an automated
mapping system.
- Ability to operate a variety of equipment used in
computerized mapping such as a keyboard, scanner and large format printer.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with a variety of internal contacts.
Preferred
Qualifications
- Public sector work experience
- Post Secondary training in
either Computing Science or Geography accompanied with formal training in GIS
from an accredited institution

This CUPE position has
an hourly rate range of $35.84 - $42.16 plus 6% in lieu. The rate of pay is
based on a variety of factors including qualifications, knowledge, experience
and skills.
