About You / What We Are Looking For

 

The City of Coquitlam is seeking up to 7 Park Attendant to join our Landscape Services Team.  This is a temporary full time position with an approximate duration of 8 months. 

 

Working in the Landscape team, our Park Attendant will perform a variety of parks maintenance tasks for parks and streetscapes; assist in landscaping tasks including planting of flowers and shrubs; deal courteously with the public to supply regarding park policies, rules, regulations and general information concerning flowers, trees and shrubs within park.  The work may involve supervisory responsibility and the operation of a vehicle and various types of equipment to complete assigned tasks.

 

This position may be required to work on weekends, and some evenings, in order to deliver a high level of service excellence to the public in maintaining local parks and streetscapes.  This position will work on boulevards and medians along busy City roads in addition to park sites; you must be comfortable working alongside traffic.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

The ideal candidate will have a completion of the tenth school grade supplemented by completion of some basic horticulture courses plus some experience in general parks maintenance or gardening work. Please note that an equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.  You must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License (with satisfactory driving record).

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in parks, landscaping, horticulture, groundskeeping, or related outdoor maintenance work
  • Experience operating small equipment and power tools (e.g., trimmers, blowers, mowers, hedge trimmers)
  • Basic knowledge of plant care, pruning, and seasonal landscape maintenance
  • Experience working in physically demanding, team-based environments

This CUPE position has an hourly rate of $35.57. The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors including qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills.
