About You / What We Are Looking For
The City of Coquitlam is looking for a passionate and experienced planning professional to join our dynamic team as Planner 3 - a key role in shaping the growth and development of one of Metro Vancouver’s fastest-growing communities.
As a senior member of the Development Planning team, you’ll be at the forefront of transformative city-development projects. Reporting to the Manager of Development Planning, you’ll lead the charge on some of the City’s most complex and high-profile development applications. This is a unique opportunity for a motivated and strategic thinker who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment where innovation and continuous improvement are part of the culture.
In this role, you will:
- Take the lead on managing and processing the City’s most complex and diverse land use applications.
- Coordinate multi-disciplinary project reviews and guide applications through the approvals process with efficiency and expertise.
- Collaborate with internal departments, external agencies, applicants, and the public to ensure thoughtful and timely development outcomes.
- Contribute to the evolution of land use policies and development processes alongside other senior staff.
- Prepare comprehensive reports, bylaw amendments, and deliver impactful presentations to committees and Council.
- Mentor and support junior planners, helping to build a strong and resilient planning team.

Minimum Qualifications
Our preferred candidate will possess at least 5 - 7 years of progressive professional experience in the field of Planning, preferably within a municipal setting. In addition, they must possess a university degree in an appropriate discipline, as well as have a graduate degree in Community and Regional Planning. Membership or eligibility for membership in a professional association (e.g. Planning Institute of British Columbia; Canadian Institute of Planners) is required. An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in process and business analysis would be an asset.
What We Offer:
This CUPE position has an hourly rate range of $63.88 - $75.70. The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors including qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills.

Additionally, there is an opportunity to participate in an earned day off/flex day program. This position is based in Coquitlam with some flexible, hybrid work options available.
