About You / What We Are Looking For

 

Bring your passion, training and experience to this exciting opportunity on our team!  As one of the fastest growing communities in British Columbia, Coquitlam is currently looking for a driven self-starter to join the City’s Planning and Development Department.  As part of the Community Planning team, you will play an integral role within the division’s leadership group and will oversee a team responsible for preparing significant long-term community planning projects.

 

The successful Planner 3 must be able to exercise independent judgement and take the lead in developing, and finalizing a variety of Planning programs and projects.  This position will also develop and implement politically sensitive public consultation processes that contribute to the formulation of effective planning policies. Your proven professional expertise in community planning and problem-solving will enable you to work on community planning processes of varying levels of complexity.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Our preferred candidate will possess at least 5 - 7 years of progressive professional experience in the field, preferably within a municipal setting.  In addition, they must possess a university degree in an appropriate discipline, as well as have a graduate degree from an accredited planning program. Eligibility for membership in a professional association (e.g. Planning Institute of British Columbia; Canadian Institute of Planners) is required.  An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered. 

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

Proven policy development experience in the following fields will be an asset:

  • Proven experience in long-range urban planning project management;
  • Preparation of OCPs, area and neighborhood plans for urban and ‘greenfield’ contexts;
  • Public engagement and stakeholder consultation;
  • Strong public presentation skills;
  • Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) policy preparation and implementation;
  • Urban design policy and practice;
  • Staff supervision and team management.

What We Offer:

 

This Regular Full Time CUPE position has a rate range of $63.88 - $75.70 per hour. The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors including qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills.

Additionally, there is an opportunity to participate in an earned day off/flex day program. This position is based in Coquitlam with some flexible, hybrid work options available.
