About You / What We Are Looking For

The Coquitlam Parks, Recreation, Culture and Facilities team is currently seeking a regular part time Recreation Leader to assist in the development and implementation of adult recreational programs and services at City recreation centres.  The work involves directing programs, promoting interest and encouraging participation in program activities, providing guidance and advising facility users on specified activities, and assisting in directing the work of program leaders, instructors, and volunteers. 

This position will specifically focus on the Stroke Recovery Program. The ideal candidate for this position will have completed post-secondary education in Therapeutic Recreation and possess relevant work experience exhibiting an understanding of the recreational interests of seniors, individuals who have had a stroke and/or special populations.

Minimum Qualifications

First Aid/CPR certification, a valid BC Driver’s License and access to a reliable form of transportation is required. 

Due to the specific nature of the program and operational needs, candidates must be available to work on Fridays.

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidates will have completed post-secondary education in therapeutic recreation, community recreation or a related field, along with relevant work experience demonstrating a sound knowledge of the recreational needs and interests of Coquitlam residents with a focus on specific demographics with diverse needs, the fundamentals of program leadership, recreation instruction, volunteer engagement, and customer service.

Experience working with a variety of ages, in particular the 50+ population, individuals who have had a stroke or special populations within recreation facilities is a considerable asset.  Additional training in Healthy Principles of Aging and/or coursework in gerontology and stroke recovery would be considered an asset. 

What We Offer:

The City offers a CUPE hourly rate of $31.77 to $37.32 (2025 rates). The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors including qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills.  This position will also receive 12% in lieu of vacation and benefits. This position is based in Coquitlam.
