The City of Coquitlam is seeking a
Senior Corporate Financial Advisor to join our Finance & Legal team.
Reporting to the General Manager, Finance & Legal, you will play a key role
in helping shape corporate decision-making by providing strategic financial
advice across a wide range of initiatives that impact one of British Columbia's
fastest-growing municipalities.
This role extends well beyond
traditional budgeting and financial reporting. As a trusted financial advisor,
you'll work collaboratively with leaders across the organization to understand
operational priorities, evaluate opportunities, identify financial risks, and
translate complex business initiatives into meaningful financial analysis that
supports informed decision-making.
Success in this role requires
curiosity, sound judgement, and the ability to build strong relationships
across the organization. You'll take the time to understand the operational
context behind major initiatives before helping departments communicate the
financial implications of their work. Your work will help shape important
decisions that have a lasting impact on our community.
Main Responsibilities
·
Partner with
senior leaders across the organization to provide strategic financial advice on
major corporate initiatives, operational priorities, and emerging
opportunities.
·
Evaluate the
financial implications of business cases, Council reports, contracts, policies,
legislative changes, and strategic initiatives.
·
Develop financial
models, scenario analyses, and long-term financial forecasts to support
informed decision-making.
·
Provide expert
advice related to operating and capital budgets, funding strategies, revenue
generation, financial risk, costing scenarios, cash flow, and long-term
financial sustainability.
·
Conduct research
and analysis on complex financial issues and recommend innovative solutions
that improve organizational performance and financial outcomes.
·
Collaborate with
departments to understand operational priorities and translate them into
meaningful financial analysis and recommendations.
·
Support
departments in effectively communicating the operational drivers behind
financial results and strategic initiatives.
·
Review financial
information through a corporate lens, ensuring consistency with organizational
priorities, financial policies, and best practices.
·
Build trusted
relationships across the organization by providing objective, thoughtful, and
practical financial advice that supports executive decision-making.
Minimum Qualifications
·
Bachelor's Degree
in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline.
·
Chartered
Professional Accountant (CPA) designation in good standing.
·
Minimum of ten
(10) years of progressively responsible financial experience.
·
Demonstrated
experience developing complex financial analysis, business cases, and strategic
financial recommendations.
·
Strong
analytical, problem-solving, written, presentation, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference may be given to candidates
who possess:

Experience
developing sophisticated financial models and scenario analyses to support
executive decision-making.
·
Experience
conducting policy analysis and assessing the financial implications of
organizational initiatives.

Experience
evaluating financial risk and providing recommendations to support strategic
decisions.
·
Experience
preparing business cases, reports, and strategic financial recommendations.
·
Experience
supporting capital planning and infrastructure investment decisions.
·
Experience
contributing to long-range financial planning and corporate financial
strategies.

What We Offer:
This excluded position has an
annual salary range of $113,373 to $127,529 (2025 rates). The
rate of pay is based on a variety of factors including qualifications,
knowledge, experience and skills.
You will have the chance to join a diverse team dedicated to supporting
the local community, and be able to engage in variety of learning and
development opportunities. Additionally, there is an opportunity to participate
in an earned day off/flex day program. This position is based in Coquitlam with
some flexible, hybrid work options available. The City offers an attractive vacation
and extended benefits package, including the ability to contribute to the
Municipal Pension Plan when eligible.
