About You / What We Are Looking For

We are currently recruiting for a Supervisor, Engineering Inspections to join our Design & Construction team in Engineering and Public Works.  This is supervisory technical, regulatory and inspectional work in ensuring that work performed by contractors on various capital or development projects conforms to and complies with plans, specified regulations, standards, contracts, specifications and related requirements.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Plans, assigns and supervises the work of engineering inspectors (eight) carrying out work at the intermediate and complex level;
  • Liaises with developers, contractors, utility companies and others on matters related to development servicing works;
  • Set up and chair preconstruction meetings for development projects and determine when servicing works have achieved substantial completion;
  • Inspects and regulates municipal utility and road work carried out by private contractors;
  • Assists with the preparation or updating of existing specifications and standards and maintaining the City’s List of Approved Products;
  • Oversee compliance with the City’s encroachment policy. 

The successful candidate will be confident communicating with City staff from various departments, consultants, contractors and working with residents to address emerging issues in a responsive manner while exercising independent judgement on a daily basis. 

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

In addition to considerable related experience, preferably in a municipal setting, completion of a diploma program in civil engineering technology or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of training and experience, is required.  Membership (or eligibility) in ASTTBC or approved equivalent is required. Certification as a Public Works Inspector 3 is preferred. A valid driver’s license for BC is also required.

This CUPE position has an hourly rate range of $51.87 - $61.29 per hour (2025 rates). The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors including qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills.
