About You / What We Are Looking For

 

The City of Coquitlam currently has a great opportunity to join our innovative and experienced Finance team as a Taxation Supervisor. This position reports to the Manager Revenue Services and will lead work associated with the billing and collection of property taxes, utility fees and other charges.

 

Key responsibilities include:

 

  • Ensuring smooth and efficient day to day operations of the Revenue Services activities including overseeing all aspects of customer service.
  • Providing leadership, direction and oversight to team members including planning, assigning and coordinating the related work and scheduling of the front counter staff
  • Leading the preparation of the property tax and utility fee billing and overseeing the collection of the related funds.
  • Undertaking the research, analysis, reporting and auditing of the financial transactions, property assessment data and other information in relation to municipal revenue collection.
  • Undertaking a variety of tax-related initiatives such as reviewing of tax records for accuracy and completeness, preparing of financial reports, statistics, statements and ad hoc analyses.
  • Assisting and advising on taxation strategies, policies, procedures and related legislation
  • Integrating continuous improvement strategies into related procedures and processes
  • Undertaking special projects and assignments as required.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Commerce or related discipline or a professional accounting designation (CPA)
  • Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience (preferably in public sector).
  • Strong analytical, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills.

 

The ideal candidate will have a high degree of professionalism coupled with strong customer service, organizational, time management, problem solving and decision making skills allowing effective handling of a variety of competing tasks and priorities. The successful candidate will be able to work well under pressure, exercise considerable independent judgment and initiative, and build and maintain strong working relationships with a variety of stakeholders.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA designation or Master’s degree in Business Administration would be considered an asset.
  • Experience in a revenue services environment in a municipal or regional government setting.
  • Experience supervising/managing clerical or administrative teams in a unionized environment is an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical and communication skills.
  • The ability to effectively build relationships with various internal departments.

 

What We Offer:

 

This CUPE position has an hourly rate range of $45.75 - $54.03 (2025 rates). The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors including qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills.
